Peter Walsh eyes Cox Plate 2023 for Amelia's Jewel

Amelia’s Jewel, the star Western Australian mare, is set to embark on a Melbourne campaign for the entire spring racing season.

With the Cox Plate as the ultimate goal, the mare is currently preparing for her next race in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes on AFL Grand Final Eve, September 29.

A win could solidify her as a strong contender for the prestigious Cox Plate 2023.

Speaking to RSN927, Amelia’s Jewel’s owner Peter Walsh expressed confidence and high hopes for the mare.

“If she gets around Moonee Valley well in a fortnight’s time, I mean there’s nothing like the Cox Plate is there?” he said.

Walsh couldn’t be prouder of Amelia’s Jewel after her first race away from home, where she triumphed in the G2 Let’s Elope Stakes.

He described her as “an exceptional horse,” adding, “I’ll never get a horse like this again, so I just enjoy it.”

Currently, Amelia’s Jewel stands as an $9.00 chance to win the Cox Plate with Ladbrokes, behind the $4.000 favorite, Romantic Warrior.
