CAULFIELD FOUR-PLAY

Caulfield Race 1, 3yo BM80 (1700m)
$25 each-way FARHH FLUNG (11) at $6/$2.40
Toughest test to date but performed strongly the past two starts to suggest the rise in class and distance is not going to trouble the four-year-old gelding. Won last start at The Valley, settled last and looped the field under a cool steer from jockey Blake Shinn to win by just under a length. Start prior finished second at Sandown, tried similar tactics but peaked on the run. Has won third-up previously and suited by conditions. Barrier one the only real concern for the backmarker – going to need his share of luck to get through the field.

Caulfield Race 7, Group 1 Might and Power Stakes (2000m)
$50 win DUAIS (9) $4.60
The multiple Group1 winner showed a glimpse of her best last start third in the Underwood Stakes behind ALLIGATOR BLOOD (1). Settled in the second half of the field and powered to the line to run third. Should be too strong for Alligator Blood over 2000m and JUST FINE (6) under the odds, up nine kilograms on last start and drops back from 2400m Group 1. Include NONCONFORMIST (3) in any exotics, third-up and proven at Caulfield. Almost won this race in 2021, beaten a pimple behind Probabeel, then placed second in the Caulfield Cup thereafter. Worth an each-way saver at $18 on Saturday.

Caulfield Race 9, Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m)
$25 each-way SCHEELITE (7) at $12/$3.30
How he rates against deserved favourite MILITARIZE (1), a triple Group 1 winner, remains to be seen but Scheelite has proven to be up there with the best Victorian three-year-olds this season. Beaten for speed the Vain and McNeil stakes but finished off strongly to run fifth in both, beaten 1.4 and 1.9 lengths respectively. Scheelite motored home last start in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude to run fourth, beaten less than half a length. Primed to peak at 1600m and has Militarize, drawn inside him in barrier 12, to follow into the race.

Caulfield Race 10, Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m)
$50 win AMELIA'S JEWEL (3) at $2.25
Cannot take a trick on the barrier front, 14, nine and 12, in Melbourne but a top class mare with options aplenty in front of her. Best to get on early because the fan favourite's price is unlikely to last long into the day despite pushes for other horses, including second elect ANTINO (6) and Feehan Stakes-winner PINSTRIPED (4). Weighted to win this and should be doing so if the West Australian superstar has Cox Plate or Golden Eagle ambitions.

CAULFIELD QUADZILLA

Leg 1, Race 7
DUAIS (9) ticks a lot of boxes and suited by the rise in distance to 2000m. Hard to hold out especially with the race set to be run at a decent clip with multiple on speed horses engaged. Respect ALLIGATOR BLOOD (1) but vulnerable the last 200m. NONCONFORMIST (3) the knockout chance. Almost won this race two years ago and last start finished as well as Duais in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes. Include JUST FINE (6) given the market support, happy to go without also.
1ST LEG 1, 3, 6, 9

Leg 2, Race 8
WISHLOR LASS (10) was ridden like the best horse last start at Sandown and booted clear to win comfortably. Should get a lovely run in transit from barrier six and has Damian Lane aboard. Quality mare looks poised to add black type to her resume. BARBIE'S FOX (4) has raced consistently and finished just outside the top three in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap last start. A repeat of that run would win this. Include SHE'S A CON (6) as best of the rest.
2ND LEG 4, 6, 10

Leg 3, Race 9
MILITARIZE (1) is the horse to beat bar none. A triple Group 1 winner already, including one at 1600m. Arrived on time to win the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) last start in Sydney, the race has produced four of the past five Caulfield Guineas winners. SCHEELITE (7) put the writing on the wall last start in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude – 1600m looks ideal. Unbeaten colt STEPARTY (4) has taken all before him so far, five from five, and must be respected again.
3RD LEG 1, 4, 7

Leg 4, Race 10
AMELIA'S JEWEL (3) a clear standout. Weighted to win with 56kg on her back and given the Cox Plate or Golden Eagle ambitions ahead, the West Australian mare should be winning the Toorak Handicap. Wide draw a complication but nothing star jockey Damian Lane cannot overcome. Respect the Queenslander ANTINO (6), with (4) the best at odds.
