Pistons vs Jazz: Preview, odds, betting data

The Detroit Pistons are still living out of their suitcases as they navigate a western road trip. Wednesday brings the second game west of the Mississippi River in a four-game trip that takes the Pistons to four states in seven days. On Monday, the Pistons started 2024 with another defeat to Houston. That halted any notions the team had to start a winning streak following their NBA record 28-game losing skid. But, led by Cade Cunningham, Detroit has been shooting better from the field. The Pistons are a respectable 13-20 Against The Spread (ATS), which is unexpected from a team that has fewer wins than a chimpanzee has fingers. Yes, Detroit is challenged offensively, and they have an awkward rotation of mid-sized players, many of whom handle the basketball like a man with greasy hands trying to pick up a penny.

That’s to say: Detroit is a shoddy shooting team that turns the rock over way, way too much. Detroit will likely come out on the losing end of this game in Utah, but we like them to cover the spread. A 7.5 point spread is manageable: the Pistons have been within six points in the fourth quarter in five of their last six losses, and the losing margin has been eight points or less in four of those NBA games.

Wager $110 and win $210 from FanDuel if the Pistons win OR lose by less than eight points to the Jazz on the road.

  • The Jazz are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games
  • The UNDER has hit in each of Utah’s last three games, and six of their last nine.
  • The Jazz have won on the moneyline in six of their last eight NBA games.
  • The OVER has hit in four of Detroit’s last five games.
  • The Pistons are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games
  • Cade Cunningham was averaging 34 points per game in his three most recent contests BEFORE he was held to six points (3-for-16 FG) in the loss to Houston on Monday.
  • Since he returned to the lineup, Jalen Duren is averaging 14.2 PPG and 15 RPG. His 11.8 RPG would rank 5th in the league if he qualified based on playing time.

Our last winning bet came in Detroit’s overtime loss to the Celtics last week. The team covered the spread in that near-upset. This time in Utah, Monty Williams and his charges will keep this one close too. Wager what your NBA betting budget will allow, and take those 7.5 points from BetMGM Sportsbook.

The Jazz recently defeated the Dallas Mavericks as 4.5 point underdogs. That was arguably their most impressive win of the season, and their third in a row. Once again on their home floor, and with Detroit weary from the road, it should be a victory for Utah on Wednesday. But we like Cunningham to bounce back from a dreadful shooting night on Monday to lead his team to a closely contested battle.

The depressed Pistons head west to Utah to challenge Lauri Markkanen and the Jazz. Can Monty figure it out? Full game preview, odds, picks and score prediction.
