On Sunday, the Phoenix Suns were better in every way than the Pistons, showing how a talented team can pick apart this young Detroit roster. Monty Williams has an enviable task: teaching his nubile team a new offense and defense.

The biggest problem in Sunday’s game for the Pistons was Kevin Durant, who went for 41 points. Detroit now must handle the Warriors, another team with a future Hall of Famer at the center of its offensive attack.

Steph Curry leads the high-scoring Warriors into Motown, and with Detroit’s confidence waning, it’s a dangerous game for basketball bettors. That’s because the Pistons may fall flat trying to keep up with Golden State’s sharpshooting offense built around the three.

Not to mention the challenge of keeping a hand in the face of Curry and his pal Klay Thompson. Don’t forget Andrew Wiggins and 21-year old wunderkind Jonathan Kuminga, who like to penetrate and dish, or soar to the front of the rim.

A man to watch in the red-white-and-blue of the Pistons is Marcus Sasser, who has played himself into a key role in the rotation. The rookie point guard has averaged 20.5 points the last two games, and is angling to give Williams a deadly threesome in the backcourt along with Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes.

Note to Pistons bettors however: it’s too early to bank on the minutes Sasser will get with Cunningham, Hayes, and Jaden Ivey in the mix. But it’s not too early to win with FanDuel. Cade Cunningham is +600 to score the game’s first basket.

It’s a mathematical fact that no basketball team can score when they don’t have the ball. So far, Detroit is averaging 18 turnovers per game, by far the most in the NBA. Unless Williams can fix that problem, Detroit will be playing from behind a lot.

Under Williams, the Pistons are playing a defensive system that is more efficient than in recent years. But, the players haven’t perfected it yet. Golden State will exploit the opportunities on the perimeter and score at least 115 points on the way to a win.

The Warriors are shooting nearly 40 three-pointers per game, and are still a top-ten based on success from that range. The still-energetic Steph Curry is shouldering an increasing portion of the offense: hoisting 11.8 threes per game, and so far he’s shooting an insane 48.7% from beyond the arc. Klay Thompson is still getting his triples off too, and that doub;e-headed monster will be too much for the Pistons’ backcourt, which is still not what it should be defensively.
