Pitt Basketball Included in NIT Bracketology Prediction

After making a run to the Round of 32 in last year’s NCAA Basketball Tournament, Pitt is looking to make it back to the postseason this year with a much younger roster.

The Panthers, currently sitting at 11-7 overall and 2-5 in the ACC, have lots of work to do if they want to make any postseason event, especially the big dance. However, with a recent win at Cameron Indoor Stadium against No. 7 Duke, things seem to be heading in the right direction for the program.

On Tuesday, the Panthers were included in NITBracketology.com’s NIT prediction bracket, listed in italics, meaning that Pitt is on the NIT bubble. The Bracketology site uses NET ranking to determine projected auto bids. Pitt currently ranks No. 69 in the NET rankings.

In addition to Pitt, several other ACC teams made the projected NIT field: Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Boston College, NC State, Miami, and Florida State.

The First, Second, and Quarterfinal rounds of the NIT are played at campus sites, while the semifinals and the championship game will be played at Butler University’s Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 2 and 4.

68 teams make the NCAA Tournament, with 32 conference tournament champions receiving automatic bids to the dance and 36 teams receiving at-large bids.

The Panthers will have a chance to extend their winning streak to two games on Tuesday night at Georgia Tech. That game will tip off at 7 p.m. on ESPNU and 93.7 The Fan.
