Positive signs from Celtic training footage at Lennoxtown ahead of St Mirren test

As far as Scottish Cup 5th Round tests go, tomorrow’s trip to face St Mirren is a tricky one for Celtic.

Most of the rest of the Scottish Premiership were handed ties against lower-league opposition but the Buddies will be right up for this one, especially off the back of two consecutive league wins.

We know Celtic can play confidently in Paisley. Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys picked up a strong 3-0 win at the same venue just last month.

What kind of performance we see from the cup holders on Sunday is a mystery though, after underwhelming displays away to Aberdeen and Hibernian over the last week.

Positively, good signs are coming out of the club in terms of squad strength.

The Celtic media team posted footage from Lennoxtown training earlier today, showing that Hyeongyu Oh and Hyunjun Yang have returned to the training set-up and will be in contention tomorrow.

The South Korean pair only exited the Asian Cup on Tuesday but have made a hasty return to Scotland to try and be involved tomorrow.

It’s also encouraging to see Stephen Welsh take part in full training following an injury scare against Hibs.

Rodgers said at Easter Road that the defender had felt his hamstring, which prompted his second-half substitution, but it seems he’s shaken off any concerns.

Elsewhere, Greg Taylor and Cameron Carter-Vickers are closing in on returns too, but are unlikely to be involved this weekend.

Taylor should be involved by next weekend at home to Kilmarnock, while the United States international is back on the training pitch going through the final parts of his rehabilitation.
