Best Cheltenham Betting Sites Reviewed

Everyone will be vying to be your sportsbook of choice during Cheltenham, and it’s hard to know which are the best! So, our experts at Wisegambler.com have picked out the top five bookies for Cheltenham betters in 2024, and if you want even more suggestions for Cheltenham Free Bets, .

1. Copy Bet — Bet £10 & Get £50

Expert Rating: 4.9/5

If you’ve been in the betting community for any amount of time, you may have stumbled across Copy Bet. It’s is a renowned bookmaker — and for good reason! The site works smoothly, has many betting markets, and the promotions are high quality, especially if you’re a fan of horse racing. However, we did note the lack of any cashback deals or a VIP scheme, which are staples at much of the competition.

T&Cs: BET 10 GET 50 offer is available only for the customers who signed up on 01.02.2024 or later. The qualifying bet should be a single bet, start at £/€10, and have 1.9 or greater odds. Each free bet lasts for 7 days. Offer stands for verified UK and ROI clients only.

2. BetVictor — Bet £10 & Get £45

Expert Rating: 4.8/5

BetVictor is one of the oldest bookmakers in the UK and still stands as one of the most solid options available, especially for horse racing fans. The betfinder tool makes betting easy even for novice punters, and BetVictor boasts one of the best-rated mobile betting apps on the market! The only issue is that as great as BetVictor is for racing events, other sports betting markets aren’t so well catered to.

T&Cs: 18+ New customers only. Opt in and bet £10 within 7 days of registration. Get £45 in Free Bets. Bonuses expire in 7 days. Debit Card/Apple Pay payments only. T&Cs Apply, See below. begambleaware.org | Please gamble responsibly

3. William Hill — Bet £10 & Get £60

Expert Rating: 4.7/5

William Hill is one of the best-known bookmakers in the UK and has built itself a loyal audience. The layout is simple to navigate and has plenty of betting options for users to peruse. You could argue that the site is let down a little by its promotions that could be improved to meet the standard of the competition, but on the whole, William Hill is a great choice for your horse racing bets.

T&Cs: 18+. Play Safe. From 00:01 on 18.10.2022 Maximum bonus £60. Bonus expires 72 hours from issue. New customers only. Minimum stake £10 on selected games. Wagering requirements apply. Online only. Virtual markets excluded. Further terms apply.

4. Betfred— Bet £10 & Get £30

Expert Rating: 4.5/5

Betfred is best known for its mind-boggling lineup of promotions and certainly left us impressed. From the excellent welcome bonus to the regular boosts and insurance offers to the recurring promotions that keep returning users well-fed, there’s something here for everyone. Additionally, it covers a wide range of sports and live streaming across all the biggest events. Our main criticism is that the site itself leaves a lot to be desired in terms of appearance, needing a serious make-over to keep up with modern standards.

T&Cs: New UK 18+ only. Register (excl. 13/04/2024) with promo code WELCOME40, Bet £10+ on Sports in one transaction within 7 days of registering. Get £30 Free Bets & £10 free spins within 10hrs of bet settlement. Bonuses expire 7 days after issue. Min odds, eligibility & payment exclusions apply. Full T&Cs apply.

5. BetMGM — Bet £10 & Get £60 for Cheltenham

Expert Rating: 4.7/5

BetMGM is one of the newest additions to the UK betting market, but it’s already proven to be a hit among the community. That’s definitely helped by the excellent welcome bonus — which has reached its peak with £60 in Cheltenham free bets — but it is also aided by the attractive interface, deep betting markets, and mobile convenience. It’s still dealing with some growing pains, like a smaller selection of deals, but it’s an excellent choice for any UK punter.

T&Cs: New customers only. 7 days to place a qualifying bet to receive 6 x Free Bets: 4 x £10 Horse racing, 2 x £10 Acca Free Bets. 7 day expiry. Exclusions apply. Stake not returned. T&Cs apply. 18+ begambleaware.org.

More than just looking at the odds and the horse itself, plenty of other factors can impact the performance or quality of a racer. Here’s a quick peek at some of the tips you might not have considered before.

Weather/Ground Conditions

This is such an important factor that the Cheltenham Racecourse website has an entire tab dedicated to it. Also called ‘the going,’ the weather and ground conditions can say a lot about the performance of a racer or whether the trainer will even let the horse participate at all. Depending on the ground a horse trains on, it could perform better on softer or harder soil, and extremes either way could even be dangerous for some horses. So keep an eye on the going ahead of betting.

Trainers

Horse trainers play a larger role in a horse’s performance than you might expect, especially considering how the horse and its pedigree get so much of the focus. A good horse trainer is much like a top-tier football coach, moulding a racer into the perfect racing machine that performs at peak physical condition. The top trainers in the current racing scene are all from Ireland — Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead — and you’ll notice that many of their trainees are favourites for the upcoming races.

Jockeys

A horse may be the best runner in the world, but in the hands of an incompetent jockey, it doesn’t have a hope of winning. Jockeys have to be physically aerodynamic and skilled enough to control these 1000kg beasts, so it’s worth paying attention to who is riding as well as the racer. The current top Jockeys at Cheltenham are Paul Townend, Nico de Boinville and Rachael Blackmore.

Cheltenham Bet Types Explained

The Cheltenham Festival features so many races that it opens betters up to many exciting types of bets that aren’t always viable on smaller race days. Here’s a look at the most popular multiples you can make at Cheltenham.

Double

A double is the simplest form of a multiple or multi-bet. It’s the combination of two single bets to form a larger bet that only pays out if both bets win but with a higher profit.

Treble

As the name would suggest, a treble is a step up from a double. It combines three single bets into one larger bet that only pays off if all three bets win. If it does win, the payout is far greater than a single bet.

Accumulator

Once again, an accumulator — colloquially called an Acca — is a step further than the treble. An accumulator is the name given to any multiple of four bets or more combined into one (we don’t have specific names for multiples above four until you hit cover bets). The acca will only pay out if all selections win.

Lucky 15

The Lucky 15 is a type of cover bet which encompasses four single bets combined in all possible ways to form one mega-bet. Lucky 15 bets, in specific, consist of four single bets (four selections) combined into six doubles, four trebles and one accumulator. Only one selection in a Lucky 15 has to win for a potential return, but as more selections win, the profit increases exponentially. A lucky bet with five selections is a Lucky 31, and six selections is a Lucky 63.

Yankee

A Yankee is almost identical to a Lucky 15 but doesn’t include the single bets as a part of the cover — it’s made up of 11 bets instead of 15. It consists of four selections combined into six doubles, four trebles and an acca. This means it won’t pay out unless at least two of the selections win, and the payout will increase exponentially. You can also have a larger variation called a Canadian (or sometimes a Super Yankee), which uses five selections instead of four.

Recap of Cheltenham Festival 2023

The 2023 Cheltenham Festival proved to be another good one for the Irish trainers, with 18 of the 28 winners being from Irish trainers. The leading trainer and jockey were taken by Irish horse racing stars Willie Mullins and Paul Townend, with Mullins’s racers, in particular, performing fantastically across the festival. The Gold Cup was taken by both Mullins and Townend in 2023, riding on Galopin Des Champs, and early predictions show that experts are anticipating a repeat in 2024.
