Premier League Predictions 2023/24: Gameweek 2 Picks

There were top marks for Billy Grimshaw (Brentford 2-2 Tottenham) and Steve Chambers (Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool) who successfully predicted the correct scores in the opening gameweek of Premier League football, while we had three other correct results nestled within the six televised matches.

There are five top-flight offerings on TV this week, starting with Saturday's blockbuster back-to-back clashes between Tottenham vs Man Utd and Man City vs Newcastle.

Scroll below to view our Premier League Predictions for the second gameweek.

  • Saturday 19th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 5.30pm

After a start that looked promising yet yielded only a point for Spurs, their first home game of the season sees them host a side who began the season unconvincingly yet somehow emerged with all three. Ange Postecoglou's side created plenty at Brentford and were more positive than Spurs have been for years, so expect them to be aggressive and attacking again here against Man Utd.

Erik ten Hag will have hated what his side dished up at Old Trafford against Wolves, with plenty of players looking off the pace. However, the victory was all that mattered and we can expect them to improve in North London. A score draw looks the play again for Spurs so I'll stick with the same scoreline that hit successfully last week.

Billy Grimshaw's Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Man Utd

  • Saturday 19th August, TNT Sports 1, 8pm

Man City travel to Greece midweek for the Super Cup final and despite having less preparation time than Newcastle, I still see them coming off convincing winners at The Etihad in this Premier League clash. Newcastle secured a 5-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening weekend, but did only manage one more shot than Unai Emery’s side.

City only failed to win two matches in front of their own fans last season and even though Kevin De Bruyne will miss out through injury, another win looks very likely here.

Anton Eadson's Prediction: Man City 3-1 Newcastle

  • Sunday 20th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 2pm

Both clubs head to the Midlands on the back of disappointing defeats in their opening games: Aston Villa were pumped 5-1 by Newcastle and Everton sunk to a 1-0 loss at home to Fulham. Villa have won their last four games against Everton and haven't lost to the Toffees in eight.

They were poor against the Toon but they have the quality to bounce back in front of an expectant home crowd against a toothless Everton side that are in for a long old season.

Jack Kitson's Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Everton

  • Sunday 20th August, Sky Sports Main Event, 4.30pm

We are only on GW2 and already Moyes is one of the favourites in the next Premier League manager to be sacked market, and he's up against one of the stronger teams in the League who have just spent close to £300m on the likes of Caicedo, Disasi, Jackson, Nkunku etc, while the Hammers have sold Rice and brought in Ward Prowse and Alvarez.

I can only see one result for this encounter and it's with Chelsea taking all three points. The bookies agree with the Blues around 10/11 to win, however, they've not kept a clean sheet in the league since April, so a look at the away win and BTTS to supply some value.

Michael Bates' Prediction: West Ham 1-3 Chelsea

  • Monday 21st August, Sky Sports Main Event, 8pm

Both London clubs got off to winning starts over the weekend - Palace defeating new boys Sheffield United and Arsenal seeing off Nottingham Forest despite a nervy finale at The Emirates on Saturday lunchtime.

Roy Hodgson's side have enough quality in the aggregate to compensate for the loss of Wilfried Zaha, and there's a feeling that playing the more competitive sides earlier in the season gives underdogs a better chance of snatching points. That being said, the 76-year-old is 0-2-2 against Mikel Arteta, and is about to contend with a side that flexed the best away record in the Premier League last season (12 wins, 39 points).

Luke Hamilton's Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal
