Premier League top scorer odds: Haaland probability means inflated prices for Kane and Salah

Premier League top scorer betting is typically a competitive field but the presence of Erling Haaland now appears to have sucked some of the fun out of the market.

Last season, Haaland seemed destined to be Premier League top goal scorer right from the off as he became the quickest player to net 20 Premier League goals, achieving this feat before the New Year. He finished the league campaign with 36.

The Manchester City striker is very much expected to win the Golden Boot in 2023/24 as well. After all, betting sites price City as the clear favourites for the title and Haaland has no lack of service from Pep Guardiola’s cohort of attacking talent.

It means the Premier League top scorer odds are skewed in the favour of one man. But punters need not be disheartened, as this means bigger prices elsewhere, while several bookmakers offer a Golden Boot market that excludes Haaland altogether.

So, let’s dive into the Premier League top goal scorer odds and see who – if anyone – could rival the Norwegian this season, and who is the best bet to be the closest also-ran.

Haaland top scorer odds

Can anyone stop Haaland? Last season he scored a Premier League record 36 goals, and 52 across all competitions. He doesn’t always have to do much to find the net – simply get into space and wait for the right pass. Haaland is quite rightly odds-on to win the Golden Boot again, but there isn't much betting value in his 8/11 price and that has created inflated odds for the rest of the field.

Kane top scorer odds

A three-time Premier League top scorer, Harry Kane was the regular favourite for this gong until Haaland came along. Now there’s uncertainty whether he will even be in the Premier League much longer. Bayern Munich are interested in signing him and Spurs could finally let go of their main man. Until that matter is resolved, it’s probably best to avoid backing Kane, even though he’s generously priced on betting apps at 6/1.

Salah top scorer odds

A better option than Kane is perhaps Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool sensation who averages 22.8 goals a season in the Premier League. If Haaland suffers a significant injury and Kane joins Bayern, Salah could find himself in the driving seat to win a fourth Golden Boot. BetUK, BetVictor and Unibet all offer 8/1 on the Egyptian. It's an enticing price given his prolific past.

Nunez top scorer odds

Much was expected of Darwin Nunez last season and, while the Uruguayan only bagged nine Premier League goals, he’s expected to be more productive in his second season, as is often the case with Jurgen Klopp’s signings. His price to be top Premier League goal scorer has been shortening in recent weeks, which suggests football betting sites are seeing plenty of bets on the 24-year-old. It’s a bit of a stretch, but punters are perhaps being seduced by odds as long as 20/1, available at SpreadEx.

Rashford top scorer odds

Having signed a new Manchester United contract, Marcus Rashford is expected to continue producing the goods. He scored 17 league goals last term - a joint personal best for him – but is yet to breach the 20 mark in his career. With Erik ten Hag moulding his squad around the England striker, he may finally be ready to move up that extra level next season. Odds of 20/1 on Betway will appeal to optimistic United fans.

Gabriel Jesus top scorer odds

Arsenal hoped Gabriel Jesus would be the missing piece in their squad that would catapult them to the title last term. He only scored 11 league goals in the end but it was his link-up play that really helped the Gunners. The odds suggest Jesus won’t be threatening Haaland at the top, with 20/1 the going rate. It’s not one we’re particularly enthused by.

Nkunku top scorer odds

Chelsea’s new striker Christopher Nkunku arrives in England after scoring 36 goals across the last two Bundesliga seasons for RB Leipzig. Chelsea have a recent reputation for wasting striker talent – just look at Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata. Can Nkunku buck the trend? It’s a big ask in his first season and the bookies don’t think he can rival the big guns just yet. He’s been handed a best price of 33/1 with BetGoodwin.

Premier League top scorer betting without Haaland

  • Harry Kane – 4/1 with BoyleSports
  • Mohamed Salah – 5/1 with BoyleSports
  • Darwin Nunez – 10/1 with BoyleSports
  • Marcus Rashford – 11/1 with BoyleSports
  • Gabriel Jesus – 11/1 with BoyleSports
  • Alexander Isak – 14/1 with BoyleSports
  • Christopher Nkunku – 16/1 with BoyleSports

Take Haaland out of the equation and the odds for Premier League top scorer suddenly look a lot more competitive. That's what BoyleSports have done with their 'Top Scorer Without Haaland' market.

The upcoming season is ripe for a fresh superstar and both Nkunku and Alexander Isak will both be intent on breaking the 20-goal barrier.

Rashford and Jesus could also push close to that figure but their game is so centred around build-up play and assisting others that it’s hard to see how they go deep into the 20s.

Nunez is an interesting candidate here. The Uruguay international is attracting more interest in this market than anyone besides Kane, who isn’t worth backing until we know who he’ll be playing for come the end of the transfer window.

Nunez is due a more focal role in the Liverpool team this campaign, having missed nine games last term through injury and suspension.

Salah (5/1) has the magic touch at Anfield but Nunez’s odds (10/1) are double that of his 31-year-old team-mate. Signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai will only improve the service landing at Nunez’s feet. It may well pay to take on Kane and Salah in this market by picking the third favourite.
