'Pretty much destined': Paul Merson makes West Ham Premier League prediction

Paul Merson has made a prediction about where West Ham United will finish in the Premier League this season.

West Ham take on Brentford in the Premier League tomorrow, and Paul Merson has made his prediction for the match.

Hammers boss David Moyes earned some much needed respite after his side beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

Attention now switches back to the Premier League for West Ham this weekend, with a difficult fixture against Brentford on the menu.

The Hammers are currently sitting in ninth spot in the Premier League table, one place above the Bees. Tomorrow’s game is a big opportunity for both teams to get three points on the board, and to start looking up towards the European places.

But where will we finish in the league come the end of the season?

The well-renowned football pundit was not too optimistic about the Hammers, when writing his latest column for Sportskeeda.

Merson suggested that West Ham are pretty much a dead-cert to finish mid-table in the Premier League this season:

“This is a strange one to call as there’s not much between the two sides in terms of points, but I think it’ll be a decent game with a few goals in it. Both teams will have a goal and look at this one as a winnable game of football, so I’m going for a 2-2 draw. West Ham got an important win against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and will look to stay in all the domestic cups as long as possible, as they are pretty much destined to finish midtable in the Premier League.”

Prediction: Brentford 2-2 West Ham

In all fairness to Merson, I reckon he’s pretty much bang on with the shout of us finishing mid-table this term.

At the very best, I see us finishing as high as seventh in the Premier League this season, but we’ll most probably end up being in the 9-11th bracket.

There are so many good teams in the Premier League right now with the recent emergence of Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton adding to the already incredibly fierce competition.

I actually think we’ll struggle against Brentford, especially without Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez. I see us losing against the Bees, but we’ll be just fine in the Premier League this season, and I reckon we’ll finish in ninth spot when the campaign ends.
