Prisons netball sharpshooter Namulumba yearns for more after Real Stars award

Towering shooter-cum-goal attacker Christine Namulumba Kago aspires to play professional netball in the United Kingdom, just like her role model Peace Proscovia.

Christine Namulumba Kago is the next big item in Uganda’s fast growing Netball circles.

The towering shooter-cum-goal attacker is currently employed by the Uganda Prisons as she pursues a degree in Human resource management at Victoria University.

The 23-year-old towering player scores at free will and at the same time creates as many scoring opportunities for teammates.

Moments after winning the Fortebet Real Stars award as the best netballer in the month of December 2022, Namulumba has hinted on striving for the best that the sport has to offer.

“I am humbled for winning the Fortebet Real Stars Award in netball for the month of December 2022. This is self-motivating and I thank my teammates for the effort during matches. I want to keep performing well and winning” Namulumba stated during the crowning moment at Route 256 Restaurant in Kololo, Kampala on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

Namulumba was singled out for her exceptional role in creating as many goal scoring opportunities as possible for teammate Specioza Namukose.

She beat Barbra Namukaaya and Faridah Kadondi to the gong.

“I want to play professional netball in the United Kingdom, just like Peace Proscovia my role model” she added.

Other winners:

Veteran cricketer Frank “Franco” Nsubuga won in the cricket sport, beating national teammate Simon Ssesaazi and Lady Cricket Cranes’ Janet Mbabazi.

“It feels good to be recognized as the best. Cricket being a team’s sport, I give this victory back to the entire team. I am indeed humbled” the calm Nsubuga told the media.

Nsubuga was part of the Uganda Cricket Cranes team that won the Tri-Nation tournament in Kigali city, Rwanda.
