Profiles of 10 British & Irish Raiders

There are 10 British and Irish raiders left as possible 2022 Melbourne Cup horses. The event takes place at Flemington on Tuesday, 1 November. The weights for this year's edition of “The Race that Stops a Nation’s” have been published.

The Lexus Melbourne Cup is a Group 1 handicap for horses aged three and up. It is the centrepiece of Australian horse racing’s Spring Carnival. The race takes place on Tuesday, 1st November 2022 at Flemington. Purse is A$8,000,00. TV channels are Network 10 and Channel 78 in Australia.

Without A Fight is a 5-year-old gelding trained by Simon Crisford and owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum. He was allotted the heaviest weight of all potential British raiders. Without A fight won his last two races at York in recognised course and distance trials for the Ebor Handicap.

Deauville Legend is a 3-year-old gelding. He is trained by James Ferguson and owned by K K Ho. Deauville Legend won two recognised Leger trials in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket and the Great Voltigeur at York. In between, he chased home New London under a penalty at Glorious Goodwood. Melbourne Cup is the end-of-the-season target for his trainer and owner.

Eldar Eldarov is a 3-year-old colt trained by Roger Varian. He won the St Leger at Royal Ascot. Eldar has other autumn targets for his trainer.

Hoo Ya Mal is going to Australia and will be trained by Gai Waterhouse. He is a 3-year-old colt. His last race was a St Leger. He won the March Stakes at Goodwood. The colts are not considered one of the British 2022 Melbourne Cup horses.

Alfred Boucher is a 6-year-old gelding. He is trained by Ian Williams and owned by Robert Allcock. Alfred Bouchers won the Knavesmire at the same meeting three days earlier. Flemington is on alluvial flats close to a river.

Earl Of Tyrone is a 4-year-old gelding trained by Paddy Twomey. He was beaten a length in the Ebor and finished third in York's big handicap. The Irish Cesarewitch is Premier Handicap for Flat stayers in Emerald Isle.

Rodrigo Diaz has Australian co-owners. He has won three races on turf and is a big outsider for the Melbourne Cup. He is 9-race winless since last summer.

Point King is a 3-year-old colt. He is owned by Lloyd Williams and trained by Joseph O'Brien. Point King was beaten in the Irish Champions Weekend last time out.

Temple Of Artemis is a 3-year-old colt. He is owned by Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, Westerberg & Lloyd Williams. Coolmore share Chester races handicap winner TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS with Westerburg and Williams, who have a lot of interest in the horse. Temple Of Artis had some fancy entries closer to home in UK and Ireland but was never on terms on his final two starts.

Waterville is the last of the 10 British and Irish 2022 Melbourne Cup horses in contention. He won a staying Limerick handicap and both the Irish and English Cesarewich.
