Promoter Eddie Hearn confirms Anthony Joshua has welcomed Tyson Fury's purse split, but wants it reversed in rematch fight

No one would have foreseen that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua would finally be fighting before the end of 2022, but it appears it’s all coming together.

After Oleksandr Usyk beat Joshua for the second time by split decision, Fury immediately called out the Ukrainian, but the current WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion has said he won’t return to the ring until next year.

Rather than go straight into another fight camp, Usyk has said he needs to recover from various injuries and spend time with his family.

This has opened the door for Joshua, as Fury has now offered his fellow Brit the opportunity to fight for his WBC world title.

Since then, more details have emerged in terms of what Fury has offered, revealing Joshua will be given a 60/40 purse split and the fight could take place on November 12 at Old Trafford, November 26 at Wembley Stadium or December 3 in Cardiff.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has now confirmed that AJ has accepted Fury’s offer, but he wants a different date.

And he has some demands for a possible rematch, too.

“60/40 was the offer and they want a rematch clause and they asked for a date at the beginning of November,” Hearn told IFL TV.

“I spoke to AJ about that offer and I think AJ deserves more than 40 percent, but he’s happy and I don’t make the decisions, he does.

“So, I went back this morning and said we accept 60/40, we want that reversed in the rematch… and we want to do the fight in December.

“Interestingly, Queensbury have December 17 held at Millennium Stadium, so that’s perfect for us.

“There’s a lot to discuss, AJ has an exclusive global deal with DAZN, but already me and George [Warren – son of Fury’s promoter, Frank] have been discussing ways to share that with BT…

“So, in essence we accept the offer of 60/40 and we confirmed that this morning. There are lots of conversations to be had.”

Hearn then went on to talk about the rematch clause, saying, “It was offered at 50/50… but we believe when AJ’s champion that 60/40 split should be reversed, so we don’t see that as an issue.

“We’re not moaning about the rematch clause, he’s the champion and we’ve had rematch clauses in our agreements when AJ’s been champion.”
