Purdue Predictions: Staff Score Predictions, Picks Against The Spread and Eleven Warriors Prop Bets

And on Saturday, No. 3 Ohio State heads into its house of horrors, Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana, where the Buckeyes have dropped three of their last four games, to square off against the struggling Purdue Boilermakers.

Although the Boilermakers have earned the “Spoilermakers” mantra for their knack of knocking off College Football Playoff contenders, the 2023 Purdue squad under first-year head coach Ryan Walters has limped to a 2-4 mark at the season’s midway point.

With Purdue’s slow start to the season in mind, the Eleven Warriors staff predict little trouble for the Buckeyes on Saturday.

Score Predictions

Johnny Ginter: Ohio State 38, Purdue 10: “I'm curious to see if Ryan Day has a continued appetite for banging his head against the wall in regards to the running game, or if he's going to trust Kyle McCord to air it out 40 times. I'm personally hoping for the latter.”

Andy Anders: Ohio State 45, Purdue 10: “Despite the history of woes in West Lafayette, Ohio State handles business against a remedial Boilermaker bunch that shouldn't threaten the Buckeyes on either side of the ball.”

Dan Hope: Ohio State 38, Purdue 20: “Given Ohio State’s history in West Lafayette, I’m predicting this game will be closer than it should be on paper. With a big game against Penn State looming next week, I’m not expecting the Buckeyes’ sharpest performance today, but they’ll get the most important job done and bring home a win unlike their last trip to Purdue five years ago.”

Garrick Hodge: Ohio State 41, Purdue 13: “While the run game has been worrisome at best, it should be able to find success against Purdue in a less than desirable forecast. OSU should get on track ahead of an even more daunting matchup next week.”

Josh Poloha: Ohio State 38, Purdue 13: "For the first time in what seems like forever, the Buckeyes don't struggle and win a game in West Lafayette. Not only that, but Ohio State will cover the spread as well. Jeff Brohm isn't Purdue's head coach anymore so the Spoilermakers' magic will be no more, at least this year."

Ramzy Nasrallah: Ohio State 38, Purdue 13: “The only spooky thing about this West Lafayette trip is the home team’s defense.”

Matt Gutridge: Ohio State 35, Purdue 10: “The Spoilermaker narrative gets derailed.”

Chris Lauderback: Ohio State 31, Purdue 13: "I expect this one to be tough on the eyes offensively as Day keeps trying to get his struggling run game on track and the conditions slow the passing game a touch. Still, Ohio State has an elite defense and more than enough juice to cruise past the Boilers."

Kyle Jones: Ohio State 31, Purdue 10: “It will be an ugly game during which the Buckeye defense continues to show why it’s the strength of this year’s squad.”

Jack Emerson: Ohio State 35, Purdue 10: “Sure, the Buckeyes haven’t exactly fared well in recent trips to West Lafayette, but this Purdue team seemingly doesn’t have the same magic as previous Boilermaker squads. Ohio State’s defense will continue to roll, while the Buckeye rushing attack finds some rhythm against the Boilermakers.”

Will Ohio State Cover?

Despite Ohio State opening the week as 20.5-point favorites, the line has dipped to 18 as of Friday evening, according to the Action Sports consensus lines.

The Buckeyes have covered twice and pushed once in their last three games after an 0-2 start against the spread this season, while the Boilermakers' ATS record matches their 2-4 mark through six games.

With Ohio State’s recent success against the spread, 12 of 13 members of the Eleven Warriors staff envision the Buckeyes covering on Saturday with Dan Hope as the lone holdout.

What About The Over?

The total for Saturday’s contest sits at 52, as of Friday evening.

The over has only hit once in Ohio State’s first five games, with the lone exception coming in the Buckeyes’ 63-10 drubbing of Western Kentucky on Sept. 16. Purdue has gone over the total three times this season, with the over hitting in two of its last three games.

Eight members of the Eleven Warriors staff predict that Ohio State’s woes against the total will continue, with Jason Priestas, Chris Lauderback, Ramzy Nasrallah, Johnny Ginter, Kyle Jones, Josh Poloha, Matt Gutridge and Jack Emerson all picking the under.
