Rachel King narrowly misses top spot in World All-Star Jockeys Series

In the recent World All-Star Jockeys series in Japan, Australian representative and G1-winning jockey Rachel King performed impressively, narrowly missing the top spot.

The Sydney-based English jockey led the series after three of four legs, claiming victory aboard Dover Hawk in a 1200m race and finishing runner-up with Pod Bullet in a 2000m event.

King maintained an eight-point lead going into the final leg after her mount, For Oneself, placed 8th in a 1700m race on a dirt track.

However, King faced an unexpected setback in the final 1800m race when she had to pull out her 8-year-old mare, Atomica, due to an apparent injury.

This allowed jockey Mirai Iwata, son of Melbourne Cup winner Yasunari Iwata, to win the series with 56 points, one point ahead of King’s 55.

King was awarded a prize of 2m yen, approximately AUD$21,300, for her efforts.

King joins a roster of Australians, including Shane Dye, Damien Oliver, and Craig Williams, who have also earned podium finishes in the international series.

Australian jockey Zac Purton has also won the series in the past, representing Hong Kong.
