Racing in Massachusetts May Be Nearing Return
A group is applying to the Massachusetts Racing Commission for a license to operate a new horse racing track in the town of Hardwick. The project is called Commonwealth Equine and Agricultural Center. It will be located at the site of the Great Meadowbrook Farm, a 360-acre spread which began as a dairy farm and has been used as an equestrian training center. Suffolk Downs was closed after it lost its casino license. Sports betting was legalized in Massachusetts earlier this year. The group does not plan to have on-site sports betting at their proposed track. They believe enough money can be made from sports gambling to support a racetrack.
