FanDuel, DraftKings apply for online sports betting in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has received 15 sports wagering operator applications. The deadline for applications is Monday.
MGM Springfield, Encore Boston Harbor and Plainridge Park Casino applied for Category 1 and Category 3 licenses. MGM Springfield intends to operate an in-person sports betting and one online platform, which will be called BetM MGM. EnCore Boston Harbour and the Plain Ridge Park will operate two online platforms each.
The category 1 license allows operators to do in-person wagering at their properties and up to two online platforms. The category 2 license is currently only for horse tracks or simulcast facilities.
DraftKings, FanDuel, Bally Bet, Betr, and Paysbet are applying for Category 3 licenses for online sports betting in Massachusetts. Raynham Park and Suffolk Downs are the only businesses that can apply for a Category 2 license. The MGC has set a goal of beginning in-person betting for the Category 1 license by January and online betting by March.
