Rangers fans say 'this CAN'T be the same player' as Ibrox flop scores wonder goal for new club

SOMETIMES it just doesn't work out for a player at one club.

But for this former Rangers player, his spell at Ibrox was so underwhelming he had fans convinced things would never work out for him anywhere else - and boy is he disproving that theory.

Since leaving Glasgow he has turned himself into a €20m star and had a host of European clubs chasing his signature before he settled on his current club.

That man is Umar Sadiq, and he scored one of the best goals you'll see from this weekend.

So good in fact that some Gers fans are convinced it simply CAN'T be the same player who struggled so badly in Scottish football.

The Nigerian striker played just four times for the Light Blues after joining on loan from Roma under Steven Gerrard in the 2018-19 season.

His most infamous appearance came in a League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen where he dived whilst clean through on goal and missed a sitter for the ages.

It was a performance so bad some of the Ibrox faithful consider it the single worst display from a number nine in Light Blue.

Yet his goal for Real Sociedad this weekend is something to behold.

Picking the ball up on the halfway line, Sadiq turns and advances towards the opponent's box.

He carries the ball about 20 yards before committing the first of two defenders, cutting inside to create some space for himself.

With room to shoot, Sadiq unleashes a beauty of a strike from all of 30 yards that flies into the top corner and leaves rival goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović stunned.

It put Real Sociedad 2-0 up against Sevilla and would help them on their way to three points.

After seeing footage of the goal, Rangers supporters were in disbelief on social media.

One said: "This can't be the same guy who played for Rangers."

Another remarked: "Refuse to believe this is the same bloke that was absolutely gash for us."

A third said: "Right this definitely can’t be the same player."

Another fan joked: "Convinced he has an identical twin and Rangers got the other one."

While another punter demanded: "Bring him home."

Even an Aberdeen fan responded: "Scores this but missed from about three yards in the semi final against us... mental."

Not everyone was convinced though.

One Rangers fan said: "I’m sorry, but absolutely no one near him and still controls it like a donkey."

The strike was Sadiq's first goal this season, after 14 appearances.

He was on top form last year before injury struck, with two goals in three games for Almeria and a promising start for Sociedad with a goal on his debut.

Sadiq earned his move to Sociedad on the back of two impressive campaigns for Almeria in the Segunda Division, averaging a goal every other game.

He had made the switch to Spain after turning his career around at Partizan Belgrade, where he bagged 23 goals in 52 games.
