Rebels v Waratahs preview

The finals start two rounds earlier. Rebels and Waratahs are fighting for the final spot in the finals. A Rebels victory locks up the Finals a week early.

Rebels got off to a shaky start, opening their season with a loss to the Brumbies and a draw to Reds. They won over the Force and Brumies before losing to The Reds in round five. Waratahs have had an inconsistent season, losing three out of the first four games.

Matt Toomua passed a fitness test on his injured neck. Pone Fa’amausili drops to the bench in place of Wallaby Jermaine Ainsley. Michael Stolberg and Tom Pincus come onto the benches for Charlie Abel and Esei Ha‘angana. Tepai Moeroa will play inside centre for the Waratahs. Lalakai Foketi slots out of the side with Will Harris coming onto to bench for Hugh Sinclair.

Jack Demspey and Isi Naisarani are the key match-ups. The winner will be selected in the Wallabies 23. Matt Toomua and Tepai Moeroa are contrasting styles and experience. Waratahs are looking to shore up their defence and play for territory. Rebels are trying to attack from both sides. Warats are going for a ‘bash and barge’ approach.

The Waratahs are going to beat the Rebels. Will Harrison will be the difference. The Rebels are focusing on next week's clash against the Force.
