Record spending over California’s legal gambling initiative

Proposition 27 is backed by DraftKings, BetMGM, FanDuel and other national sports betting operators. It would allow online sports bets for adults over the internet and on phones or other mobile devices. Proposition 26 is supported by many Indian tribes and would let people wager on sporting events in person at casinos operated by tribes. A committee opposing Proposition 27 has raised over $91 million. The main rival is the Yes on 27 committee backed from sports bettors. It's not clear what the fiscal benefits might be with either proposal. Legislative Analyst’s Office concluded its effect on revenues and costs is uncertain.
