Red Sox slugger named AL Rookie of the Year finalist with two others

Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas has been named an AL Rookie of the Year finalist along with Orioles shortstop/third baseman Gunnar Henderson and Guardians righty Tanner Bibee.

Casas batted .263 with a .367 on-base percentage, .490 slugging percentage, .857 OPS, 24 homers, 21 doubles, two triples, 66 runs, 65 RBIs, 70 walks and 126 strikeouts in 132 games.

He finished in the 93rd percentile in walk percentage (13.9%), 92nd percentile in expected weighted on-base percentage (.371), 89th percentile in expected slugging percentage (.500) and 86th percentile in chase percentage (22.1%).

He had a bad first first month (.133/.283/.293/.576 line), then turned it completely around. He batted .313 with a .405 on-base percentage, .581 slugging percentage and .986 OPS over his final 73 games beginning June 14. He also was named a finalist for a Silver Slugger at first base along with the Rays’ Yandy Diaz, Rangers’ Nathaniel Lowe and Tigers’ Spencer Torkelson.

Henderson is the favorite to win the award. He batted .255 with a .325 on-base percentage, .489 slugging percentage, .814 OPS, 28 homers, 29 doubles, nine triples, 100 runs, 82 RBIs, 56 walks and 159 strikeouts in 150 games (622 plate appearances).

Bibee went 10-4 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 25 starts. Opponents batted .230 against him. He struck out 141 batters and walked 45 in 142 innings.
