Red Sox vs. Phillies prediction and odds for Saturday, May 6 (Back the Red Hot Red Sox)

The Philadelphia Phillies have had Bryce Harper back healthy for three games and they’re a disappointing 0-3 in that stretch. They have now lost five straight including last night against the Boston Red Sox who have won seven-in-a-row to get to 20-14. The Phillies are 15-18 on the year and in fourth place in the NL East. 

For Game 2 of this weekend series Philadelphia will hand the ball to Bailey Falter to try to stop the losing skid, but Falter is dealing with a personal losing streak of his own and is 0-5 on the year with a 5.01 ERA. Corey Kluber will take the mound on the other side. Kluber is 1-4 with a 6.44 ERA.

Let’s get into the odds for this interleague matchup in Philadelphia. 

Over the past week, the Phillies are 0-5, but that isn’t because their offense, with Harper reinserted for three of those five, is struggling, it’s because their pitchers can’t keep runs off the scoreboard. Their team ERA over that stretch is 9.58 which is over a run worse than the 29th ranked team for that stretch.

Well, not all the blame is on their pitching staff, the lineup is 27th in OPS over that weeklong stretch as well and they’ve only managed 17 runs. The Red Sox on the other side are first in runs and second in OPS for the past week where they are a perfect 6-0. Their offense is firing on all cylinders and they’re getting production all up and down the lineup.

Last night, it wasn’t just Rafael Devers and Justin Turner driving in runs, it was also Kike Hernandez, Triston Casas, and Enmanuel Valdez. Boston will need to get a contribution from Corey Kluber who has been rough on the mound this season, but in his last two outings he’s allowed just four earned across 11.1 innings, which is good enough for the red hot Red Sox.
