Richard Gibson’s blowout Griffin win gives him ‘as much pleasure’ as Wellington’s Group One

Richard Gibson has won a Group One prize with Wellington. He also won his first two-year-old winner in Hong Kong at Sha Tin on Sunday. It was the Argonaut Plate (1,000m) for Griffins. The horse won at the knockout odds of $108. It's only Tony Piccone's eighth winner of the season. His past two wins came for Gibson. They came in the last two weeks. Piccon knows the two year olds well from his time in France. he's been in HK since October. and he knows it's hard work to get winners there. "Hong Kong is a very special place and getting winners here is hard.

The Jockey Club will pay HK$15 million to replace the retractable canopy outside the weigh-in room with a permanent structure. The structure will be used for presentations and interviews. It will also have a big screen for TV and a space for important events like HKIR or Champions Day. Work on the project began in the past week and it will open for the first meeting of the 2021-22 season in September.

Decisive Twelve won the Game Spirit Handicap (1,200m) under Alexis Badel. The horse had two near misses in his previous starts. Chris So Wai-yin changed the jockey after the last two starts and he was glad he did. Decisive 12 held off Trillion Win by a narrow margin.
