Richard Johnson Cheltenham Tips: Former Champion Jockey Unleashes His Best Bet of The Meeting

Cheltenham Festival Tips: JONBON @ 5/4 with BetUK

Richard Johnson, who rode 22 Cheltenham Festival winners during his career, is pinning his ‘best bet of the meeting’ on JONBON.

Douvan’s brother has so far lived up to his billing – despite being soundly beaten by Constitution Hill in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last season. Since then, the Nicky Henderson 7 year-old has made the switch to fences and is so far 3-from-3 over the bigger obstacles.

He’s won that trio of races by a total of 20.5 lengths and despite having a scare last time at Warwick, eventually won by 5 1/2 lengths. Having seen that last race, you feel the stiffer test that Cheltenham will provide will be right up Jonbon’s street – and ex-jockey Richard Johnson seems to agree.

Johnson told the Racing Post “Constitution Hill is the most solid horse of the meeting, but as a bet, I’d be with Jonbon at 7-4 in the Arkle because I think El Fabiolo is the wrong favourite.”

Richard Johnson’s only winner in the Arkle when riding came on Captain Chris in 2011.

You can back JONBON at Cheltenham odds of @ 5/4 for the Arkle Novices’ Chase with BetUK (non-runner, no bet)
