Ross Smith hits record number of 180s during stunning win over Michael van Gerwen

Ross Smith beat Michael van Gerwen 5-4 to reach the Grand Slam of Darts knockout stages. He will play Luke Humphries in the second round. Luke will also play Josh Rock in a possible quarter-final. The tournament is being held at Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton. It's the first time Smith has advanced beyond the opening stage. The Englishman had failed to win a match in each of his two previous appearances at the tournament. Van Gerhen won the European title in October. His loss to Smith wasn't enough to prevent him from finishing atop the Group G summit.
