Roy Keane drops major Man Utd prediction for Premier League season ahead of Wolves match

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane has made a huge Premier League prediction for Manchester United ahead of the Red Devils’ opening clash against Wolves.

United manager Erik ten Hag led the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the league last season, despite falling a whopping 14 points behind treble winners Manchester City.

However, the former Ajax boss managed to end his debut season with his first major silverware for United after his side’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Despite their Carabao Cup triumph, United were thwarted a second piece of major silverware under Ten Hag after a 2-1 defeat to crosstown rivals City in the FA Cup final.

Ten Hag, who arrived from Ajax last summer, is hopeful of building on his success at Old Trafford and has significantly reinforced his United squad ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Roy Keane makes top-four prediction for United

Despite the addition of new summer signings like Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, Keane has ruled out a successful league title challenge for United.

Keane, who lifted seven Premier League titles during his prolific United playing career, has admitted it is difficult to see another team outside of City winning the title.

When asked if United could challenge for the Premier League crown this season, Keane told Sky Sports on Sunday: “No, I don’t think so.

“I just think it’s so hard to see beyond Man City. Again, I’ve said before, unless they really drop off and get really bad injuries and lose that hunger, then I think the other teams have a chance.

“United will be top four, Arsenal have improved, look at Newcastle. Aston Villa will respond well to it [losing to Newcastle], obviously Liverpool and Chelsea, for a lot of them teams it’s about being top four and that’s the same for United.”

United begin their opening Premier League match of the season against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference last Friday, Ten Hag claimed that United’s performances “were on a high level” during his side’s pre-season tour.

“First, you never can compare seasons with each other but I think we are much further than last season, but you can never compare games,” he told reporters (via the Manchester Evening News).

“Different opponents, we had a very good pre-season, our fitness levels are very good, we are on really good levels and I think also our performance levels during pre-season were on a high level.”
