Royal Ascot Day 4 tips: Weld's Tahiyra set for Coronation

Royal Ascot got a day to remember on Thursday, with a Royal winner for King Charles and Gold Cup glory for Ascot's King — Frankie Dettori.

Day four comes along on Friday and it should be more of the same.

Day 4 — Key info

First race: 14:30 Albany Stakes

Feature race: 16:20 Coronation Stakes

We are into the home straight at Royal Ascot on Friday with just two more days of action ahead following the drama of Gold Cup Day — which included a popular Royal winner for the King and Queen.

Day four at the meeting serves up two more Group 1 contests — the Commonwealth Cup and the Coronation Stakes — and both feature hot favourites.

First, it is Little Big Bear bidding to continue an excellent week for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore by taking out the Commonwealth Cup, a 6f speed test for 3YOs.

He was Europe's top juvenile sprinter last season and, after failing to shine at a mile in the 2000 Guineas, returned to winning ways in last month's Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock back at this distance.

He is very much the one to beat, but both Sakheer and Lezoo tried a mile in the Newmarket Classics last month and ran well to the point where stamina appeared to give way.

Horses dropping back in trip for this race typically do well.

Frankie Dettori rides Lezoo for Andrew Balding and the filly has won 4-5 starts at this trip, with only 1000 Guineas winner Mawj beating her last season.

Dettori should be confident about his chances here.

Dermot Weld is an iconic trainer.

The veteran Irish handler first won the Coronation Stakes in 1978 and now, 45 years on, many are forecasting that Tahiyra will give him a second success.

She narrowly lost out to Mawj in the Guineas at Newmarket but has since won the Irish version at the Curragh.

There may be plenty more improvement in the Aga Khan-owned filly and she sets a high bar for her rivals today.

The opening Albany Stakes is a cracking race on paper, with nine of the 18 fillies unbeaten to this point.

Plenty of them have chances but perhaps none more so than £350,000 breeze-up buy CARLA'S WAY for Simon & Ed Crisford.

She made a winning start recently at Doncaster, making all and posting some excellent fractions in doing so.

The second has come out since and won by 11 lengths at Haydock and there could be a sizeable chunk of improvement to come from James Doyle's partner.

The Sandringham is a tough puzzle to work out and cases can be made for plenty of the contenders.

One that might be overpriced is KARSAVINA for Clive Cox.

The Ulysses filly won at Newmarket (7f, soft) on her sole start at two and clearly connections think plenty of her as she went straight to the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket in April, finishing fourth, before a crack at the 1000 Guineas.

That proved a bridge too far but she could have plenty more to offer and while an opening mark of 99 does not make it entirely easy, there is surely more to come from the Cheveley Park runner.

Day 4 acca

Everybody loves a Royal Ascot accumulator and we will be pointing towards one on each of the five days this week. On day four, our treble pays a 29/1 return with LiveScoreBet.

What a difference a day can make! After being bang out of luck for most of the opening two days, Frankie Dettori got on the scoresheet late on Wednesday and then added the Gold Cup with a superb ride on Courage Mon Ami on day three.

Take a bow, my friend.

Customers know well that when Frankie gets his tail up, he can be hard to stop.

LEZOO has only been beaten once over 6f and ran well for a long way in a hot 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last month. Horses dropping from a mile to sprinting do very well in the Commonwealth Cup and, with Frankie flying, she's got excellent claims.

TAHIYRA fought out a wonderful battle with Mawj in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, the pair miles clear, and while bested there, she has since added the Irish version at the Curragh.

She overcame some trouble in running to ultimately win with something in hand, beating old foe Meditate — who has another crack at her now.

Dermot Weld's filly is only getting better and she is going to take some stopping here.

One place Frankie may be foiled is in the King Edward VII Stakes where beaten Derby favourite Arrest has a job on to turn things around with Epsom second KING OF STEEL

Roger Varian's charge was having his first run of the year in that Classic, went beyond a mile for the first time and also got away from soft/heavy going for the only time in his short career.

At odds of 66/1 he looked sure to win at the furlong-pole only for the outstanding Auguste Rodin to peg him back.

They were clear of the remainder and a mere replication of that may be enough to prevail now — in all probability Kevin Stott's partner can do better still.
