Royal Ascot looms as Mandaloun bids to join top ranks of U.S. 3-year-olds

Mandaloun won the Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday. Belmont Stake winner Essential Quality won't be crowned the best 3-year-old in the nation until later. Ascot Racecourse is decked out and ready for the Ascott.

The gates open Tuesday at Royal Ascot for the prestigious week of racing. The first race is the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes. Frankie Dettori is seeking his third straight Royal Atcot riding crown. Horses from the late breeders and owners of the Royal Meeting are among the favorites. The week is big business for horse business. Four slots in November's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar are up for grabs. American trainer Wesley Ward has favorites on most days of Royal Acot. Hayley Turner and Hollie Doyle will look to continue last year's success for female riders.

Rainbow Bridge won the Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge at Greyville in Durban on Saturday. It was his third straight win and his fourth consecutive second place finish.

Converge won the Group 1 Treasury Brisbane J.J. Atkins Stakes for 2-year-olds. It was his third win from seven starts. Mandaloun is aiming to join the top ranks of U.S. 3-y-olds.

Mandaloun won the TVG.com Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park. Essential Quality finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby. Informative won Saturday's Salvator Mile at the same track.   The horse won in 1:37.01. The next race is the Grade I Travers at Saratoga on August 28. It will be followed by the Breeders' Cup Classic in November at Del Mar. Ny Traffic won last Saturday. He finished second in last year's Grade 1 Haskell Stake. His trainer expected this because he's been training well. iNformative, a Bodemeister colt, won with Jose Ferrer aboard for trainer Uriah St. Lewis.

Mintd won Saturday's $150,000 Old Forester Mint Julep Stakes at Churchill Downs. Rideforthecause won Sunday's Possibly Perfect Stake at Santa Anita. Blame Debbie won the $100,00 Searching Stages at Pimlico. Mandaloun is trying to join the top ranks of U.S. 3-year-olds.

Pixelate won the Prince George's County Stakes at Pimlico by 1 length over Logical Myth. The 1 1/8 miles on good turf was clocked in 1:53.56.

Give Me the Lute won the $66,800 Albany Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. It was his fourth win from his last six starts and first stakes score.

Chub Wagon won the Shine Again Stakes by a neck. Mandaloun is aiming to join the top ranks of U.S. 3-year-olds.

Brickyard Ride won the Thor's Echo Stakes for California-breds by 4 3/4 lengths. Colt Fiction and Fashionably Fast completed the trifecta. Juan Hernandez had the mount for trainer Craig Lewis.

Sadie Lady won the Dancin Renee Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares by 1 1/2 lengths over Fierce Lady. Ruvies in Time was third. Sadie lady got 6 furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.05 with Jose Ortiz riding.

Shifty She won the Ginger Punch Stakes for Florida-bred fillies and mares at Gulfstream Park. Sun Summers finished second, 3/4 lengths behind.

Tengo Mis Papeles won his first start in the Texsas Stallion Stakes. Eagle Express won the filly division. Direct Dial chased down the favorite, Mr. Moneybags, in deep stretch and won by 1/2 length. Boerne pressed the early pace and took command in stretch to win the $75,000 Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stake for fillies and mares. Sunlit Song won $50,00 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stages.

Valued Notion won the Ben's Cat Stakes for Maryland-breds by 2 lengths over Air Token. Oldies but Goodies was third.

Karl Broberg won his 4,000th race on Friday at Prairie Meadows. Gerard Melancon rode his 5, 000th winner in Opelousas, Louisiana on Thursday.
