Rugby World Cup final: 'Lots of people are getting excited'

Tāmaki Makaurau is buzzing with Rugby World Cup fever as the Black Ferns prepare to take on England in tonight's final at Eden Park.

The hospitality industry has been thrilled by the family-friendly atmosphere the crowds have provided throughout the five-week-long tournament.

Morningside Tavern general manger Dave Gunn said fans of all ages were already out in droves and the bar had catered for families with games and a bouncy castle.

"We've got lots of families, there's lots of black t-shirts around, lots of people getting excited," he said.

Some England t-shirts could also be seen, he added, and the atmosphere was "pretty exciting and vibrant", with lots of people at the tables talking about who they thought would win.

Black Ferns relishing the challenge: 'It's why we do this'

The Black Ferns insist they're not daunted by the challenge they face in tonight's final.

New Zealand will play an England side ranked number one in the world - and on a record 30-match winning streak.

But Black Ferns hooker Georgia Ponsonby said the players were relishing what lay in front of them.

"This is the game of our lives, this is the game that you dream of," she said.

"Yes, it is a challenge and it's going to be the biggest game in probably many of our careers - but it's why we play, it's why we do this, so we're not shying away from it."

Minister for Sport and Recreation Grant Robertson said he was proud of the New Zealand team.

"To get us to this point after what was a really, really tough year last year, rebuilding and really defying the odds, we're so proud of you and we know you're going to do us proud tonight."

France led Canada 29-0 in the second half of the bronze medal match.
