Runner-by-runner guide to the Group 1 Underwood Stakes

The Group 1 Underwood Stakes is run at Sandown on Sunday. The Underwoods is worth $1 million, with $600,000 going to winning connections. There is a small field of six runners this year.

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr / Mark Zahra (59kg) are the trainers of Alligator Blood. They won the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington a fortnight ago. Alligators Blood has only been beyond a mile once in his 16 starts.

Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott and Tim Clark are going to the Underwood Stakes. I'm Thunderstruck has a decent G1 record of two wins and two seconds from five attempts. Mr Brightside and Zaaki are expected to vie for the front position.

Ben & JD Hayes and Craig Williams are the trainers of the gelding Maps. Maps has won nine of 16 races. The gelderly horse has been ridden by Craig Wiliams to all his wins.

Annabel Neasham and Hugh Bowman are going to the Underwood Stakes. Annabel is the favourite. Hugh takes the ride after Nash Rawiller had to pull out.

Grahame Begg and Jordan Childs are preparing for the Caulfield Cup. Grahame finished eighth in the Memsie and seventh in Makybe Diva. Jordan has ridden Nonconformist in all five of his career wins.
