Rutgers field hockey inspired by alumni in upset vs. Northwestern

Rutgers field hockey team upset defending national champions Northwestern 2-1 last Saturday. Many of the team's alumni were in attendance. The alumni took part in the pregame huddle and took a part. Bridy Molyneaux said the alumni's presence inspired the players.

Rutgers field hockey team beat Northwestern 3-1. The team was boosted by alumni. Rutgers is currently fourth in the Big Ten standings. They play No. 2 Maryland on Sunday. The four remaining games for Rutgers this season are all against ranked teams. IU was named the winner of the game. Northwestern was the runner-up.

Rikke Nordvik was named the Big Ten Golfer of the week after winning the Rocket Classic in Port Clinton, Ohio. She is the second Scarlet Knight to earn the honor. Leigha Devine received the award after tying for first at the Badger Invitational. Rutgers finishes the fall with a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico to compete in TCU’s Battle at The Beach at Club Campestre beginning on Friday, October 28.

Rutgers recorded its eighth shutout of the season with a 1-0 victory over Indiana last Sunday. Sophomore midfielder Kylie Daigle scored the lone goal. The Scarlet Knights are currently fourth in the Big Ten standings with 13 points.

The Scarlet Knights earned their second shutout of the season with a 2-0 win against Stony Brook on Wednesday night. Pablo Avila and MD Myers each scored a goal. It was Avisa's fourth goal of this season and second in consecutive games. Rutgers is currently tied with Penn State for second place in the Big Ten standings.

Xavier Marcoux and Rhett Sellers tied for 46th place at the Marquette Intercollegiate in Milwaukee on Monday. Rutgers finished with a final score of 883 (+43), in a tie for 14th out of 15 teams. The Scarlet Knights wrap up their fall schedule at Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Florida starting on Sunday, October 16.

Rutgers volleyball team lost to Illinois in three sets. Freshman Taylor Humphrey had nine kills and three blocks. Lauren DeLo recorded 20 assists. Madyson Chitty had a team-high 10 digs. Kristina Grkovic had four blocks for the Illini.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams are preparing for the Penn State National meet on Friday. They last raced in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Sept. 30. The women placed 26th out of 46, the women’s team finished 34th, and the male team placed 42nd out 46.
