Ryan Blaney pole NASCAR Circuit of the Americas

Brad Keselowski's Ford was disqualified for an illegal modification. He was docked 100 points and dropped from 16th to 35th in the standings. The team owner was also dinged 100 owner points. Matt McCall was fined $100,000 and suspended for four races. NASCAR has not revealed the details of the investigation. Kevin Harvick wants the information to be made public. It is the first time the team has been punished for a minor modification to the car. NASCAR President Steve Phelps says the teams were warned about the penalties. Denny Hamlin claims he knew what the modification was.

Ryan Blaney won the pole for the NASCAR Circuit of the Americas. Daniel Suarez qualified second, Cole Custer third and Tyler Reddick fourth. Alex Bowman was the highest-qualifying driver from Hendrick Motorsports at fifth. Chase Elliott qualified 12th. He is the only Hendick driver without a win this year. Justin Haley, Justin Cindric and Denny Hamlin also qualified in the top 10.
