SEC football odds to win 2023 championship: Georgia, Alabama easy favorites

While Big Ten fans will argue that the Big Ten East is the best division in college football, the SEC is hands down the best overall conference, top to bottom, in college football. The SEC football odds for the conference winner reflect that two powerhouse programs are battling at the top.

Standing at the top of the SEC is the two-time reigning National Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs.

The SEC is no longer run by Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. It belongs to Kirby Smart, and his roster is full of DAWGS.

Georgia's roster could be dissected to reveal as many as 50+ future NFL players at any time. Think that sounds too gaudy? Well, in the last two NFL drafts, Georgia has had 25 players drafted, so over the course of a player's four years of eligibility, that would be an average of 50 players drafted, and that doesn't even count players to make rosters as undrafted free agents.

SEC championship odds: Georgia is still the favorite over Alabama

Here are ACC championship odds at the top of the betting board.

  • Georgia (-130)
  • Alabama (+200)
  • LSU (+800)
  • Tennessee (+1800)

SEC betting favorites

With the tough weekly competition in the SEC, the odds are constantly changing for the conference odds to win the 2023 SEC Championship. While Georgia remains the top team, here's the case for Georgia and Alabama.

Georgia Bulldogs

This Georgia team might have less talent than the last two National Championship teams. Some young players are starting to step up and could prove the previous statement wrong. The other big change is having Carson Beck at quarterback instead of Stetson Bennett.

Beck is getting better each game, though, and in some respects, while not as mobile, may have a stronger arm than Bennett, allowing Georgia to open up different facets of their offense.

As long as Beck keeps growing and improving, there is no reason this Georgia team can't win not only another SEC Championship but another National Championship.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The former king of the SEC is not dead but sneaking around in the shadows, desperately searching for a way to retake the throne. Alabama does have one loss this season, but it was to an excellent, highly-ranked Texas team.

Alabama wasn't 100% settled at quarterback yet, but it does appear to be now with Jalen Milroe. Milroe can be frustrating, but he gets better every game. Also, Milroe has electric athletic capabilities that give Alabama something Nick Saban has not had at quarterback, maybe ever, a guy that at any given moment can break a 25+ yard run.

If Milroe keeps improving, don't be surprised when Alabama wins out and gives Georgia one heck of a game in the 2023 SEC Championship game.

SEC betting longshots

LSU Tigers

LSU may have watched their chances of qualifying for the College Football Playoff disappear after their second loss in the regular season. With only one conference loss, though, if LSU wins out, they could still do what they did last year and make it to the SEC Conference Championship game.

With the offense looking unstoppable, putting up insane point totals, they could be the type of team that could give Georgia a lot of trouble, as the Bulldogs may not be equipped to win in an offensive shootout.

Missouri Tigers

The Tigers have played some really good football this season, outperforming what most expected from Missouri. Going wire to wire and beating Kansas State and Memphis. The only loss came to LSU, who are in the SEC West, so theoretically, the Tigers of Missouri still control their destiny to win out and make it to the 2023 SEC Championship Game.

Granted, that would mean having to take down the Georgia Bulldogs, but perhaps last year's game, where Georgia had to score two fourth-quarter touchdowns just to beat Missouri, was a sign of things to come for this Missouri team. One thing is for sure: when Georgia hosts Missouri on Nov. 11, the Bulldogs know they can't wait until the fourth quarter to beat Missouri because this year's Tigers have gotten better, and it might not be easy just to turn it on late.

2023 SEC championship prediction: It's Georgia's world, we are just living in it

An old proverb says, "You gotta beat the king to be the king." It has been two years since Georgia last lost a game in the regular season, and the Bulldogs have dominated in the big games like the SEC Championship and College Football Playoffs.

Kirby Smart has built a giant in Athens, and while there have been a few Davids hoping to take down the Bulldogs and Georgia has been hit by a few rocks, there has yet to be a team to beat them.

Not at least since Dec. 4, 2021, when Alabama beat them in the SEC Championship game. Georgia got revenge by beating the Crimson Tide in the National Championship. Until someone takes them down, believing that any team is capable is almost hard.
