Alabama vs. Georgia is the SEC Championship matchup fans hoped for in the preseason, and each team met expectations and will now compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff.

This is the 10th consecutive season the Crimson Tide or Bulldogs will compete for an SEC title. Alabama and Georgia last met in the 2022 National Championship when the Dawgs dominated in a 33-18 victory.

Kirby Smart beat Nick Saban for the first time in that game after losing four prior matchups, two of which came in the SEC Championship and another in the 2018 National Championship.

Saturday’s clash will give the winning team a massive edge in recruiting as each school fights to sign premier players.

Georgia is guaranteed a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win, while Alabama will need help from the selection committee to earn a spot. The Bulldogs were the No. 1 team in the latest CFP rankings, leaving the decision-makers with much to consider if the Crimson Tide come out on top.

Pressuring Carson Beck is the key to a Crimson Tide triumph. Beck has only been sacked eight times this season but has yet to face a pass rush that stacks up to Alabama’s.

The Tide have taken the QB down 36 times, the seventh-highest mark in P5. Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell lead the team with eight sacks, tied for third in the SEC.

Georgia lacks playmaking pass rushers, resulting in the fourth-fewest sacks in the conference. The Dawgs’ inability to get after the passer makes them susceptible against mobile QBs like Jalen Milroe.

Payton Thorne and Robby Ashford combined for 125 rushing yards vs. Georgia, and Haynes King rushed for two scores against the Bulldogs last week. With advantages on the defensive line and QB, we’re calling for the Crimson Tide to cover the spread but for Georgia to win its fifth SEC Championship.

Brock Bowers and other starters sat out Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech. Bowers did suit up and was seemingly ready to go if needed but opted to stay on the sideline, likely in preparation for the SEC Championship.

Smart told the media Bowers was dealing with soreness after a remarkably short recovery from a tightrope ankle surgery that forced Brock to miss only three games. The 20-year-old had the option of sitting for the season in preparation for the NFL Draft but chose to return in search of a third National Championship, making it hard to believe he’d sit again on Saturday.

Bowers is known to ball out in big games, scoring in all three of Georgia’s matchups vs. ranked opponents. The tight end went for 152 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs National Championship beatdown of TCU and found the endzone in the SEC Championship and both CFP games in the 2021 postseason.
