SEC Football Round-Up: What we learned in week three

Tennessee beat Akron to move up to 11th in the rankings. Florida and Arkansas survived scares against inferior opponents. Auburn got embarrassed at home.

Tennessee beat Akron 63-6 on Saturday. Jalin Hyatt caught all five of his targets for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Jaylen Wright ran for 96 yards on 23 attempts and a couple scores. DJ Irons was the best player on the field for Akron. Jeremy Banks played well at the point of attack for Tennessee. Josh Heupel's team is preparing for the game against Florida.

Georgia's defense gave up a touchdown in the 12th quarter. Stetson Bennett and Brock Bowers are playing well for Georgia. Georgia has a lot of easy schedule over the next month.   The team's defensive play is second to none.

Kentucky's defense shut out YSU 31-0. The team's offense is still a mystery. They play Northern Illinois this week. They have a tough schedule the rest of the way. Their offensive line is their biggest weakness. It's Will Levis' final season. He and Dane Key have found a groove this season and have been productive.

Vanderbilt came back from an early deficit to beat NIU 38-28. AJ Swann started for Vandy after Mike Wright was benched last week. He completed 18 of 28 passes for 255 yards and four touchdowns. Will Sheppard caught 10 of his 15 targets for 171 yards.

Brady Cook played well for Mizzou against Abilene Christian. Luther Burden should get more touches for the team. Menno is unbeaten since 2020 in games where they allow fewer than 150 yards and two or fewer touchdowns on the ground.

Florida beat USF 31-28. Anthony Richardson threw two interceptions. The Gators defense gave up 286 rushing yards. Florida and Tennessee are playing each other in Neyland Stadium on Saturday. Tennessee won last week. USf's holder laid the ball down sideways for the kicker to try and tie the game late.

Georgia will upset someone this year, but it was never going to be Georgia. Spencer Rattler is not a good decision maker or a great passer. Alabama has the dudes to match up across the board. South Carolina doesn't.

Arkansas won the Petrino Bowl 38-27. Missouri State capitalized on Arkansas' sloppy offensive play early. Arkansas will play Texas A&M this coming Saturday. The defense is a real concern. It will be interesting to watch them against A &M.

LSU beat Mississippi State 16-10. The Tigers ran the ball well and the defense suffocated the Bulldogs. Jayden Daniels had a good game, throwing for 210 yards and a score and rushing for 93 yards. LSU has New Mexico this week and then plays Jordan-Hare in October.

Ole Miss ran for 316 yards and six touchdowns on 62 attempts against Georgia Tech. Zach Evans and Quinshon Judkins combined for 232 yards on the ground.

Alabama beat Monroe 63-7. Will Anderson Jr. added a pick-six. The offense still looks weird. Alabama will play Vanderbilt before going on the road to play Arkansas.

Auburn lost to Penn State 41-12. Brian Harsin won't be coaching much more. The QB play between TJ Finley and Robby Ashford isn't good.

Team A had 27 first downs, 392 total yards, 34:20 time of possession, 1 turnover, and Team B had 16 first down, 264 total yard, 25:40 time, possession and 0 turnovers.

A&M's offense is not very good. The team's defense is outstanding. A&m and Arkansas will play each other on Saturday in Jerry World.

Mississippi State is a favorite to play LSU in the SEC opener. Mike Leach's passing game is not working well against SEC defenses. Will Rogers has the most attempts behind the line of scrimmage among Power 5 quarterbacks. 73.2% of Rogers' attempts come within 10 yards, and his 5.3 ADOT is the fourth lowest in all of the FBS.

Brock Bowers was the offensive player of the week for Georgia. He caught all five of his targets for 121 yards and two touchdowns against South Carolina.

Bjulari was the defensive player of the week for LSU. He had two sacks and seven total pressures in the team's win over Mississippi State.
