Senegal and The Netherlands: A Mouth-Watering FIFA World Cup clash

Senegal and The Netherlands are playing the opening match of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. The game will take place on 21st November 2022 at the Al Thumama Stadium. Senegal are the African champions and are ranked 18 in the world. They are also ranked on top in Africa. This will be Senegal's third FIFA Cup and their ninth appearance. They reached the quarter finals of FIFA's previous two World Cups in 2002 and 2018. In 2002 they beat France in their first game. It was the first time they had beaten a defending champions. Now they are aiming to become the only African team to win the World cup.

They were eliminated in 1978 and went home in 1990. In 2006 they were beaten by Argentina. Their last appearance was in 2014. they lost on penalties in semifinal. It was their longest absence from the tournament from 1938 to 1970. From 1990 to 2014 they qualified for all the tournaments except in 2002 South Korea and Japan.
