It was the first time Williams had played a top-10 player in 19 months. Williams will next play Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic. She is 41 years old. The US open is expected to be her last-ever tournament. In the past two seasons, Konavei has only reached the third round once in nine Grand Slam appearances.
