Sevilla capable of holding their own

A surprise defeat to Lens in France on matchday two means Arsenal are playing catch-up in Group B.

The Gunners looked very good in their opener against PSV Eindhoven, but came unstuck against Lens and they now face what is arguably a sterner away-day examination against unbeaten Sevilla.

The Andalusian outfit’s start to the La Liga season has been underwhelming, with just two wins in nine games leaving them in the bottom half.

They did, though, claim a fine 1-1 weekend draw at home to Real Madrid, with the visitors reliant on Dani Carvajal scoring 12 minutes from the end to take a point.

Sevilla have made their name in Europe, albeit in the secondary competition, with seven Europa League wins since 2005-06 an amazing record.

They lost their first two home league games this season, but are unbeaten in four since.

Lucas Ocampos put them ahead early on when Lens visited on matchday one, but they were ultimately held 1-1.

With a trip to the Emirates next up, Sevilla will know they can ill afford to follow draws against Len and PSV with a loss against the Gunners.

Arsenal, meanwhile, had to score twice in the final 13 minutes against Chelsea on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten Premier League record this season, with Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard on target.

The Gunners are odds-on at 8/11 to get the win, but the Gunners have returned from Spain with a victory only once in their past 10 attempts, so betting on a stalemate is the way to go.

Declan Rice was viewed by many as the potential key missing piece in Arsenal’s jigsaw if they are to become trophy winners under Mikel Arteta.

The big-money summer signing from West Ham has scored twice for the Gunners this season, with crucial strikes against Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Rice has plenty of continental experience after two excellent runs with the Hammers in the Europa League and Conference League, famously helping West Ham lift the latter trophy in May.

In his 21 games across those two competitions, the England midfielder contributed four goals. This could be a tight clash in Spain and Rice has shown already as an Arsenal player that he can provide big moments.

After his goal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, he will be feeling positive and could get on the scoresheet in Andalusia.

Saka so important for Gunners

In their previous Champions League outing in Lens, Arsenal were out of the blocks early and in the lead when Bukayo Sako teed up Gabriel Jesus to open the scoring inside a quarter of an hour.

Not long after the England winger was withdrawn, having suffered a foot knock in the previous win over Bournemouth and seemingly another setback in France.

At Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Arsenal looked consigned to defeat before Rice took advantage of Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez’s poor clearance to make it 2-1 and Saka then set up Trossard to level.

Saka is the main man in Arsenal’s attack when he is on song and a goal in Spain can show it.

Arsenal’s goal in their 2-1 defeat at Lens means they have now scored in their past 19 Champions League group stage matches. That run should continue here, but they may not have things all their own way – so expect Sevilla to get on the scoresheet too.
