Shades of Jamaea in Prices' Agenda

Luke Price isn’t sure he has found the ideal race for two-year-old Brave Agenda at Randwick, but he is certain the filly has a bright future.

One of only three runners in the 14-strong field with race experience, Brave Agenda heads to the Petaluma Handicap (1000m) off a determined second to Cigar Flick over 1100m at Canterbury on January 6.

The best part of her race was her final 100m and co-trainer Price admitted his biggest reservation was a distance drop on Saturday.

“I would have loved to find a 1200-metre race for her in the next two weeks but that just wasn’t to be,” Luke Price said.

“I haven’t had to do a great deal with her, and she wouldn’t be going around if we weren’t happy with her.”

An $80,000 Magic Millions purchase, Brave Agenda will clash with several high-priced yearlings, most notably I Am Invincible filly Kundalini who fetched $1.7 million at Easter, and Mojave Desert, a $950,000 buy.

Both will be making their debuts, while nominal favourite Coincide is first-up since the spring when he was second to Barber in the Kirkham Plate before a midfield finish behind the same horse in the Golden Gift.

Brave Agenda has the advantage of recent racing and while the daughter of Brave Smash is bred to eventually appreciate 1400m to a mile, Price expects her professional attitude to carry her a long way.

“She reminds me a little bit of (dual Group 2 winner) Jamaea,” he said.

“Whether she is the same class yet, time will tell, but she is a lovely filly.”

Brock Ryan will partner Brave Agenda from barrier five.
