Jackson State and Delta State won SWAC West and Gulf South titles respectively. Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss all lost. Jackson State will host the SWAA Championship Game on December 3. Delta won the Gulf State title and will play Fayetteville State in NCAA Division II playoffs. East Mississippi won their eighth Mississippi Junior College football title. The inaugural Walter Jones Trophy will be presented to the top junior college football player in the nation on November 21. It is named for former Holmes player Walter J. Jones.
