Desert Crown won the Derby on his third start at Epsom on Saturday. The horse's temperament and ability to handle the big occasion were key factors in the two-and-a-half-length victory over Hoo Ya Mal in Classic. Stoute's partner Coral Pritchard-Gordon died two years ago. Queen called Stout to congratulate him on the win. Staunton will monitor the horse in coming weeks before deciding on next start. He gained a free entry to the Irish Derby after his success. It is also a possibility for the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Richard Kingscote rode the 5-2 favourite well.
