Six Nations 2022: What we learned from week one matches as Ireland, Scotland & France win

Rugby's Greatest Championship got off to a flying start at the weekend. Calcutta Cup classic at Murrayfield was highlights of the week.

Italy lost to France in the Six Nations. Italy's defence needs to improve. Italy need to play with more respect for 80 minutes. France will brush aside many teams, but Italy are capable and have talent. They need a better start.

Wales lost 29-7 to Ireland in the Six Nations opener in Dublin. Wayne Pivac's side have a lot of injuries and experience issues. The tournament is an opportunity to build for the future.  

England conceded 18 penalties in the Autumn Internationals. They beat South Africa 27-26. Last weekend they conceded a penalty try to Scotland. England will play Italy this weekend. They will try and improve their discipline. Ireland, Scotland and France won the Six Nations this week. Italy will also play in this tournament. It will be interesting to see how they fare.

France beat Italy 37-10 at the weekend. Gabin Villiere was the star player. Grégory Alldritt and Cameron Woki played a big part in the win. France are title favourites for the tournament. Ireland, Scotland and France won the Six Nations. France have all the talent but not the nerve to win the big match.

Ireland won the Six Nations tournament against Wales. France are the favourites to win the title. They play Ireland in Dublin this weekend. It's a tight call. It would be a mistake to back England. The winner will be crowned the champion. England are favourites. Ireland are here to compete for the championship.

Scotland won the Calcutta Cup against England. They have to win their next match against Wales in Cardiff. Gregor Townsend's side have all the tools to be Six Nations champions. A loss there would probably end their chances. They haven't won against the Welsh since 2002 at an empty Parc y Scarlets.
