Six Nations Predictions and Odds

This year sees one of the most exciting Six Nations competitions unfold.

For the first time in history, the No.1 and No.2 teams in the world are competing in the Six Nations, with Ireland and France both vying for the title. With Ireland the bookies’ favourite to win the Six Nations, while France are leading the odds to win the 2023 Rugby World Cup later this year, there’s plenty on the line. Add in the fact that England and Wales are both playing with new coaches, while Scotland and Italy appear to be playing with new confidence, and this is looking like it will be one of the best Six Nations in decades.

We breakdown all the best Six Nations predictions throughout this tournament, looking at the latest Six Nations odds and previewing the best bookies for Six Nations winner odds as well.

Six Nations Predictions: Round Two

Round One of the tournament saw plenty of Six Nations predictions go out the window, as England were upset by Scotland, Ireland thrashed Wales, and France were given a scare by Italy. Ahead of Round Two this weekend, here are our top Six Nations tips:

Ireland vs France Six Nations Predictions

Round Two begins with what is quite likely be the deciding match of the tournament, as France head to Dublin to take on Ireland.

Ireland are heavy favourites in the Six Nations winner odds this year, and come into this match off the back of a dominant performance in Cardiff last weekend, beating Wales 34-10. France, on the other hand, were less than impressive against Italy, barely sealing the match with ten minutes to go through a desperate try to win 29-24. With this said, the Les Blues are still on a 13-match winning streak, and haven’t lost a game in the past 12 months, despite how messy their win over Italy was. France have also won their last three games against Ireland, including in Dublin in 2021.

Technically this is an upset—we suggest going against the bookies Six Nations predictions and backing France to win against Ireland here. They have very healthy odds of 15/8 (2.88) to win, and are on a hot winning streak, with recent wins against Ireland and less expectation on their Six Nations campaign after last week’s performance.

Scotland vs Wales Six Nations Predictions

Scotland were mightily impressive last week, blowing England out of the water at Twickenham to defeat their big brothers 29-23. Wales, however, were abysmal, leaking a point-a-minute for the first 20 minutes of their match against Ireland, ultimately losing the match 34-10 despite a stronger second half.

The result has put Scotland a heavy favorite to beat Wales in Edinburgh this Saturday in the Six Nations betting odds. We think the Scots should win this match, but believe the bookies’ odds are a little out here. Since 2003, Wales have beaten Scotland 23 times in the 26 matches they’ve played. While Scotland’s last win did come in 2020, there’s still no escaping the fact that Wales have had Scotland’s number the past two decades.

Wales may have lost by 24 points last weekend, but they did keep the second half score to 7-7. We expect this will be a hard-fought, low-scoring slog, which sees Scotland scrape home by the skin of their teeth. With a Scottish win only offering odds of 4/11 (1.36), we wouldn’t recommend taking the risk of betting on this match outright.

England vs Italy Six Nations Predictions

Bookies’ Six Nations predictions ahead of England vs Italy are saying this match will be a blow out, and we tend to agree.

While England weren’t good enough to get the win last week against an excellent Scottish side, they also weren’t terrible. Up until Scotland’s final try, England had led the match, and would have won this game on another day had it not been for the brilliance of van der Merwe. Going down by six points in front of a home crowd to Scotland will sting, and the men in white will be motivated to do better for their fans and new coach. Italy, on the other hand, lost to France—but gained the respect of rugby fans around the world by punching above their weight and making a close game against the defend champions.

This week, our Six Nations tips are heavily favouring England here. Expect the home side to be much more passionate, with Italy coming out a little deflated after falling agonisingly short in defeat last week. This could easily be a 20+ score line, with Italy’s big moment in the sun short lived. Italy have never beaten England in rugby, and we don’t see that changing this weekend.

Six Nations Predictions: Outright Winner Odds

After just one round of competition, the Six Nations odds have shifted significantly. Ireland have extended their lead in the betting odds, after their comprehensive win against Wales, while France remain in second place, but have dropped slightly courtesy of their unconvincing victory against Italy. Here’s what the odds to win the Six Nations betting odds look like ahead of Round Two this weekend:

  • Ireland to win @ 4/7 (1.57)
  • France to win @ 11/4 (3.75)
  • Scotland to win @ 6/1 (7.00)
  • England to win @ 16/1 (17.00)
  • Wales to win @ 66/1 (67.00)
  • Italy to win @ 150/1 (151.00)

The biggest movements in the Six Nations betting odds occurred off the back of Scotland beating England last week. Scotland move into third favorite to win the tournament at 7.00 (6/1), a huge jump from their earlier odds of 23.00 (22/1). England, on the other hand, have slipped to 17.00 (16/1), falling from 5.00 (4/1) before the competition began. Wales have also slipped, going from 11.00 (10/1) to win the tournament, to 67.00 (66/1), while Italy have technically made the biggest improvement, going from 501.00 (500/1) to 151.00 (150/1) after their gritty loss to France.

It’s hard to go past Ireland winning the 2023 Six Nations with their current lead in the odds, however it is only week one. We think some of this weekend’s matches will shake up the Six Nations predictions somewhat, with France potentially upsetting Ireland, England putting a big score on Italy and Scotland struggling at home against Wales. If you’re planning to back France, now would be the time to wager on them.

If you’re interested in wagering on a dark horse in your Six Nations 2023 predictions, Scotland are looking good at 7.00 (6/1) right now.
