Spain kick off their 2022 tournament this afternoon as they take on 2014 quarter-finalists Costa Rica in Doha at 4pm GMT.

Costa Rica were a surprise package in Brazil eight years ago, topping a group that contained England, Italy and Uruguay before losing on penalties to the Netherlands at the quarter final stage.
Los Ticos couldn’t repeat the feat in Russia as they crashed out in the group stage, and face an uphill battle to qualify from a group also containing Japan and 2014 champions Germany this time around.
Luis Fernando Suarez’s side finished fourth in North American qualifying, and required a play-off win against New Zealand to qualify for this winters finals.
Costa Rica have lost just once in their last 13 matches, winning 10 of them as they enter the tournament in strong form.
The two nations last met in 2017, when Spain ran out 5-0 winners in Malaga, with David Silva on the scoresheet twice.
