They have not lost a competitive match since March 2020 so they should be surging with confidence as they prepare for the final.

However, make England the slight underdogs against a star-studded Spain team led by Ballon d’Or Féminin winner Alexia Putellas.

You can grab 7/4 on Spain at SpreadEx, while England are priced at 19/10 to win in 90 minutes and the draw is 2/1.

That highlights just how evenly matched these teams are. However, history is on England’s side as they have an excellent head-to-head record against La Roja.

It promises to be a very tight game, which could prove nerve-racking for England fans this weekend.

Read on to learn more about our best bets on this eagerly anticipated final.

World Cup final tips: Side with England to edge the game

Last summer, England produced a stirring performance to beat Spain in the quarter-finals of the European Championship.

Real Madrid striker Esther González put La Roja 1-0 up but Russo and Toone combined for a dramatic late equaliser. The game went into extra time and midfielder Georgia Stanway settled it with a long-range screamer.

The Lionesses ended up winning the tournament and that big game experience could prove vital when they head onto the pitch in Sydney this weekend.

It is worth noting that Spain were missing Putellas in that game as the Barcelona midfielder was out injured.

The game was also held in Brighton so the Lionesses benefited from home advantage and Spain may fancy their chances of gaining sweet revenge on Sunday.

However, it is hard to ignore England’s extremely long unbeaten record in competitive matches, which stretches back to the 2020 SheBelieves Cup.

They won Euro 2022 last summer and they also had a 100 per cent record in World Cup qualifying, so they will not lack belief when they face Spain.

It could be a very close contest, so backing 'England draw no bet' at even money (1/1) with BetUK is our safest play.

That means you get your money back if it finishes all-square at the end of 90 minutes and you profit if the Lionesses secure a famous win.

You can also bet on them to lift the trophy at 10/11 on multiple , which covers extra time and penalties if needed.

Both teams should find the back of the net

There will be a wealth of world-class attacking talent on the pitch at Stadium Australia this weekend.

Teresa Abelleira played in the holding midfield role for Spain in the semi-finals, allowing Barcelona stars Putellas and Aitana Bonmatí to support the attack.

Manager Jorge Vilda opted for an attacking triumvirate of Alba Redondo, Jenni Hermoso and Mariona Caldentey, which required him to leave González on the bench.

Their strength in depth was evident when Vilda threw on González and teenage sensation Salma Paralluelo in the second half.

Paralluelo scored her second goal in as many games so there is a great deal of competition for places in the Spain attack.

Yet England are in a similar situation, as Lauren James – their best player in the group stage – is available for selection once more after serving a two-game suspension.

Manager Sarina Wiegman may be reluctant to disrupt the starting XI that beat Australia in the semi-finals and Colombia in the quarter-finals, so she could persist with a front three of Toone, Russo and Hemp, supported by Rachel Daly and Lucy Bronze on the flanks.

However, James is an exciting option, as is Chloe Kelly, so England will bring a great deal of firepower to this battle too. For those reasons, both teams to score looks a solid bet at 11/10.

First half could be cagey

Both sets of players will naturally be a little nervous on Sunday as there will be so much at stake when they step onto the pitch.

We could see a slightly cagey first half as both teams feel each other out, before the game explodes into life after the break.

All three goals came in the final 10 minutes in Spain’s semi-final showdown with Sweden, while three of the four goals scored in England’s semi-final clash came in the second half.

It is also worth remembering that it was 0-0 at the break when these teams met in the Euros last summer, so a bet on the second half being the highest scoring period at 21/20 looks sensible too.
