Spanish influence continues to grow across Europe

Gurich Mina is the new coach of Slovakia's handball team. He will take charge of the team for the qualification round 2 of EHF EURO 2024. Slovakia will play Norway, Serbia and Finland in Group 2. The top two teams from each group progress to the final tournament in Germany. Jorge Duenas was named the Slovakia women's national team coach last autumn. He has already made his debut in the position. Gurich does not want to talk about himself.

Spanish influence in handball is growing across Europe. Seven of the 16 teams in the European top flight are led by Spanish coaches. Gurich is a novice coach. He will try to improve results for Slovakia. He has been working for the last five years. Romania appointed Xavi Pascual in 2016. Serbia, Czech Republic and Hungary have also appointed Spanish-speaking coaches recently. Spain has six Spanish national handballs' coaches, including Jordi Ribera. They are responsible for winning the EHF EURO twice in 2018 and 2020. The other Spanish hand ballers are Juan Carlos Pastor, Antonio Carlos Ortega and Alberto Entrerrios.
