Cleveland Indians changed their name to the Indians in 1903. The team was called the Naps until 1914, when Lajoie was traded. It was decided by a committee of sportswriters and team representatives. Houston Colt .45s changed its name in 1965 to Houston Astros. There are 11 teams still playing under their original name. Detroit Tigers are the longest-serving team without a new name or nickname. They started playing in the A.L. in 1901. Tampa Bay Rays changed the name from Devil to Rays in 2008, and the Expos were renamed Nationals after a move to Washington in 2005.
