Springbok Rugby flyhalf depth: Next please!

Frans Steyn played flyhalf for the first time in 14 years against Argentina. Handre Pollard and Damian Willemse were unavailable due to injury. Elton Jantjies had no game time under his belt after being sent home from Argentina and is unlikely to play fly half for Springboks again.

Pollard has picked up another injury. Jantjies future in the squad is unknown. Willemse is the last man standing. Frans Steyn did a stop-gap job in Durban against Argentina during the Rugby Championship. Ryan Jordan polled fans on social media to find out who local fans are backing. Johan Goosen, Manie Libbok, and Robert du Preez were the crowd’s favourites. Boeta Chamberlain from the Sharks, Chris Smith from Bulls, Jordan Hendrikse from Lions are also possibilities.

Johan Goosen is likely to tour as a solution to the Springbok rugby flyhalf depth question. He has recovered from his knee injury and has racked up game time in the URC. Goensel attended the South African Rugby Union's alignment camp while still injured.

Manie Libbok didn't get regular game time at Bulls or Sharks. He has matured at the Stormers and plays in a loose-attacking style. Jacques Nienaber and Rassie Erasmus are looking for a change in the Springboks' attacking shape.

Rob du Preez has played for the Stormers, Cell C Sharks and Sale Sharks. He has only played one Test for South Africa. Mngomezulu is a player who can play in both the fullback and centre positions. The Springboks are going on a Northern Hemisphere tour. Pollard is injured and Jantjies is uncertain.
