St. Louis Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction 7-30-23 MLB Picks

The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in the finale of their four-game NL Central division set in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Sunday. Can the Cardinals salvage something from the series or will the Cubs pull off the sweep? Let’s dive in and find out.

Cubs Take Down Cardinals AGAIN

The Chicago Cubs have been on quite the roll as of late, and while the Cardinals were hoping they could slow down Chicago, it just was not the case as the Cubs rolled to another win over the Cardinals by a final score of 5-1. The loss dropped the Cubs to 53-51 on the year, 3 games back in the NL Wild Card race, and 3.5 games back in the wide-open NL Central. Nico Hoerner leads the Cubbies with 112 hits and 57 RBIs in addition to a .276 batting average this season while Patrick Wisdom has belted a team-high 18 home runs for the Cubs this season. Ian Happ also leads the Cubs in two-baggers with 21 doubles this season. Kyle Hendricks will get the start for the Cubs and is 4-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season.

Cardinals Looking For Some Signs Of Life

The St. Louis Cardinals simply don’t know which way is up right now after yet ANOTHER loss on Saturday and are at risk of a 7th straight loss against the Chicago Cubs. Saturday’s loss set the Cardinals back to 46-60 on the year, 11.5 games back in the NL Central and 11 games back in the NL Wild Card, and it’s crazy to think that the Cardinals don’t appear to be sellers with the trade deadline approaching. Nolan Arenado leads the Cardinals with 22 home runs, 77 RBIs and a .282 batting average while Paul Goldschmidt has a team-high 112 hits while Willson Contreras has a team-high 22 doubles this season. Steven Matz will get the start for St. Louis here and is 1-7 with a 4.34 ERA and 85 strikeouts this season.

Chris’ Pick

I have no choice but to look the way of the Cubs here until the Cardinals wake up out of whatever funk they’re in, but they’ve been in it for the better part of the season so why would this be any different. I’m still floored that the Cards aren’t selling or at least appear to not be selling at the deadline with the announcement that they aren’t open to trading Nolan Arenado. I think the Cubs are the better team right now playing far better baseball, and getting this value with them is too good to pass on.
