Stacey Abrams doubles down on support for sports betting
Stacey Abrams is running for governor of Georgia. She supports legalizing sports betting and casino gambling. Governor Brian Kemp is opposed to this. Most polls suggest Abrams trails Kemp by 4 points. Georgia is one of four states that does not have casinos, pari-mutuel wagering, racetrack betting, iGaming, or sports gambling, along with Hawaii, Utah and Vermont. The state representative sponsored a bill that would create the Georgia Sports Betting Commission. It failed. Georgia's governor is Christian. More than one-third of the Republican primary voters in Georgia are evangelical Christians.
